Fellow Festival-Goers, rejoice! KAABOO del Mar is almost among us. There isn't a better location (hello, sunny San Diego!) or line-up this fall (Aerosmith and The Chainsmokers??) for a festival of this magnitude, and we are already counting down the days (25 to be exact) until it's. all. HAPPENING!
The "mix-perience," as KAABOO calls it, is not your typical festival. It is much, much more than that. How is KAABOO different? Let us count the ways.
The food isn't strictly typical festival food. No, no. It's much greater than that, with Palate boasting an upscale culinary experience that gives visitors a greater taste of the locally and regionally celebrated dishes. Love wine? This is the festival where you can seek out limited production wine. Small batch spirits are also available from craft distilleries. There's even a KAABOO rock'n chef competition! Food + music? These are my people.
Let's face it...festivals may start pretty, but by the end of it, we're all avoiding eye contact. Our hair is matted from our sleeping bags, we smell less like fresh daisies than we prefer, and some of us less athletic participants are feeling the soreness from days of walking. KAABOO is offering an answer to all of those issues with a unique indoor area dedicated to spa services, make-up consultations, hair blow-outs, and even massages. Did I mention the fashion zone too? Be still, our beating festival hearts!
Our very own art editor, Frank Germano, is most excited about the arts portion of the festival, where KAABOO excels yet again. They're not stopping until they entertain ALL of your senses, and your eyes will not be ignored! The visual artist attendee list reads like a Who's Who list in street and fine art from around the world. From the large-scale, technicolor portraiture of Askew One, the completely poignant, achromatic David Young V, to New Zealand's own Cinzah, AND including contemporary art installations that are both pre-created as well as created on-site, this is a unique way to see artists in their element.
Southern California can cook you like bacon during the day, and what's the best way to cool off? A little water, of course. So what does KAABOO do? It partners with the famed Wet Republic at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to bring a truly unique pool experience. You can purchase day passes for $25 or rent a cabana (and invite us at MCN, please and thanks!) overlooking the pool and stage for $1200 per day.
5. The Lineup
Most importantly, the lineup is the single greatest thing about KAABOO. This is the festival that combines the original influencers and current icons like Aerosmith, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Lenny Kravitz, and Cypress Hill with a bill that includes newer artists that currently dominate the charts, like The Chainsmokers, Gavin Degraw, Flo Rida, Jack Johnson and Echosmith. From top to bottom, this lineup is ridiculously good.
Tickets start at $279 for a 3-day weekend pass and $119 for a 1-day pass. While the ultra-exclusive Hang Ten VIP package is now sold out, there are still Hang Five upgraded passes available for $779/weekend or $299/day. Get your tickets here.
