It's finally here: the weekend -(and The Weeknd)- we've all been waiting for! The Voodoo Arts + Music Experience has officially kicked off in New Orleans, marking the beginning of Halloween weekend. The line-up is impressive as always, with Voodoo focusing on the kind of acts that you can't see at just any other festival. And while we love the boys, here are some of the kick ass women you don't want to miss!
Melanie Martinez may be from New York, but she's otherworldly in every sense. She is a masterful artist, painting a gorgeous painting with her eerie hooks and etherial vocal tones. Her new record, Cry Baby, has proven to be a complete home run, earning her three certified-gold singles and debuting at #1 on the Alternative Albums and #6 on the Billboard 200. Voodoo Fest is her last US date before she heads out on her sold out European fall tour. Catch Melanie on the Pepsi stage Saturday, Oct. 29 at 6:30pm.
Léon's 2015 release is rightly titled Treasure - EP, because it is, indeed, pure gold. And her newest single "Think About You" is a heartfelt tune remembering an ex-lover that she still thinks about, a song that is both relatable and easily accessible. Léon's voice is sultry and jazzy, and she is the kind of girl you want in your squad. If Adele and Taylor Swift had a baby, it just might sound and write a little bit like Léon. She is playing two sets this weekend-- one on Friday, Oct. 28 at 3:30 pm in the intimate Toyota Music Den and Saturday, Oct. 29 at 12:45pm on the South Course Stage.
It's Halloween weekend-- what band name is more appropriate than Little Scream? This blonde siren is a little bit of everything: she's folk and rock 'n' roll with a dash of pop. Little Scream is also a visual artist, so keep an eye out for the blend of the art forms while she's on stage. She plays two sets on Sunday, Oct. 30: the South Course Stage at 12:45 pm and then the Toyota Den Stage at 3:30pm.
